Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
Every dog deserves a dog park! The large open field at Hamnett Park in Lawrence Township, Mercer County, NJ, has been under-utilized for decades. A dog park with a walking trail is perfectly suited for the area and will benefit the physical and mental health for residents…human and canine. Let’s turn vacant land into a thriving community asset. In addition to the human reasons for a new dog park, Lawrence Township also posed the question to the dogs – why do you deserve a grant for a new park? The answers varied from “woof woof bark” to “bark bark woof,” but all dogs mentioned the same themes – we want to be outside and exercise safely! We want to celebrate Howloween in the park! We like yappy hour and going to a friend’s birthday pawty! We have been dreaming of our own park for years. Please help make Hero Dog Park a reality.
How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
The Lawrence Township community is so excited to create a new dog park in Hamnett Park! Engineering plans have already been developed for improvements such as dog-friendly fencing, benches, water fountains, shade sails and non-toxic landscaping. Capital funding has been appropriated for construction, slated to begin in fall 2022. If Lawrence wins, the grant will be used for additional play equipment in the large and small dog areas to foster healthy exercise and social interactions in a safe manner. Equipment will include tunnels, bridge climbs, training platforms and climbing boulders for off-leash playtime. “Hero Dog Park” will commemorate veteran service dogs while recognizing and honoring all best friends. Let’s bark the loudest Lawrence Township friends and secure funding for play equipment!
