About this community:
Dog Mountain is a one-of-a-kind dog park adored by dog lovers from all over the world. Situated on 150 acres of mountain top in St. Johnsbury, VT, the property is a breathtaking doggie paradise featuring three miles of hiking trails, ponds, fields, an agility course, dog-themed art gallery, and the iconic Dog Chapel. Dogs are free to run, play, swim, and (best of all) meet other dogs! Dogs aren’t just welcome at Dog Mountain; they’re cherished.
Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
Dog Mountain deserves to win a Bark for Your Park™ grant because it’s unlike any other dog park in the U.S. The world-famous Dog Chapel is one of the many features that makes Dog Mountain truly unique. Constructed in the style of a small New England Church, the Dog Chapel is a place of contemplation and quiet beauty. Over 20 years, visitors have covered the walls with hundreds of thousands of remembrances to dogs who have passed, transforming the Dog Chapel into a moving representation of the unending love people have for their dogs. Dog Mountain is the sole dog park located within a 20-mile radius, making it the only viable off-leash option for thousands of local dog owners. During the past two years of the pandemic, Dog Mountain has been an invaluable local resource, providing residents with a socially-distanced, outdoor space to socialize and enjoy recreation with their dogs.
How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
At 150 acres, Dog Mountain requires extensive maintenance and upkeep to function. Friends of Dog Mountain, the non-profit organization that owns and operates the property, relies on donations to keep Dog Mountain open to the public. As the Dog Mountain dog park community has grown over the past several years, the need for additional dog waste stations and signage has arisen. With Bark for Your Park Grant™ funding, Dog Mountain would be able to provide much-needed maintenance to this beloved dog park, including the purchase of 12 new dog waste stations, additional garbage bins, and way-finding signage. These improvements would provide the loyal Dog Mountain community with a cleaner and more welcoming experience at the Dog Mountain dog park.
