Dr. Gretchen Statz is a veterinarian and is board certified in emergency and critical care. She has a strong interest in internal medicine and has been working in that field for the past several years. She is currently working part time as an internal medicine consultant for Antech diagnostics and part time at Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Care in Indianapolis, IN seeing internal medicine cases and helping with patients in the intensive care unit. In addition to consulting and clinical work, Dr. Statz does editing and writing for the veterinary publication Clinician's Brief.

Dr. Statz graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1999 and finished an internship at VCA West Los Angeles the following year. She then worked for several years at two emergency/referral hospitals in the Boston area. She completed a residency program at VCA Veterinary Referral Associates (VRA) in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 2006 and became board certified in emergency and critical care. She worked as a criticalist at VRA for another two years after her residency and in 2008, she moved to Indiana to start a family.

Dr. Statz and her husband, Dr. Tony Johnson (also a critical care specialist and PetSafe® author) live in Carmel, IN. They keep very busy with their three children - Connor (Tony's son, July 2004), Grayson (Dec 2011) and Gloria (Aug 2012). They also have a house/yard full of animals including a large 3-legged dog named Rocco, 2 cats, 1 snake, numerous fish, and 4 chickens. In their limited free time, they like to travel and entertain.
