Respondents Say Pet Holiday Traditions Include Caroling, Ugly Sweaters and Holiday Movie Marathons
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – December 3, 2020 – Most dogs and cats will be getting gifts for the holiday season, according to a survey conducted by PetSafe® brand, a global leader in pet product solutions. With more than 1,900 responses from U.S. pet parents, PetSafe® learned that 96% have purchased holiday gifts for their pets. From dinners to festive movies and even ugly sweaters, dog and cat parents involve their pets in a variety of holiday traditions year after year.
More than 40% of survey respondents have spent more on pets than they have humans, and of that group, dog owners were more inclined to spend on gifts for their pets. The survey also showed that 86% of people include pets that aren’t theirs on the holiday shopping list. Many will purchase for a friend or family member’s pet and others celebrate the season of giving with a charitable donation.
Most surveyed (97%) add that they include their dog or cat in seasonal activities like caroling or watching Christmas movies and more than half add their pet to their annual holiday cards. Many also include their pets in family photos and opening presents.
When asked if their pets will make the naughty or nice list this year, only about 22% said naughty. The poll also revealed that cats and dogs are both equally likely to be naughty.
