Sebewaing, MI

Location of proposed dog park:

Corner of Albert and Union Streets
Sebewaing, MI 48759

About this community:

Sebewaing is a place where visits last a lifetime. A welcoming destination for fishing, boating, hunting and camping. A desirable place to raise a family or retire. A great place to work and play. Where sitting on the front porch, walking and biking are enjoyed by many. Festivals, celebrations and events are enjoyed. A historic downtown district with a river running through it is poised to spring back to life.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Sebewaing has been working hard for several years to reclaim and restore a former industrial site just two blocks from its historic downtown river district. The reclamation efforts are complete on this seven-acre site, and efforts are underway to redevelop it into a multi-use location. The approximate 1.3-acre dog park will be the catalyst to a new site for outdoor recreation space for dogs and humans, as well as entertainment and retail spaces. Sebewaing is a dog-loving community that’s looking forward to the benefits of having a dog park. Benefits will include drawing the community closer, building a dog-friendly network and impacting outdoor recreation positively. It will give dogs a bit of freedom and reduce troublesome behavior. Best of all, it will contribute to happier and healthier Sebewaing residents and residents from other communities as well.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Sebewaing plans to use the grant towards the expense of a black chain link fence enclosure around the entire park area. While the cost of the fence will likely exceed the grant, this grant will be used to inspire private donors, local businesses and the local municipality to help complete the funding for the park. Additional funding will be required for gates, benches, landscaping and pet play equipment, as well as water stations and waste disposal equipment. Signage will also need to be developed and installed. Sebewaing Dog Park supporters already have a vision for other ways to fund and maintain the ongoing operation of the park, the most exciting being an annual Dog Fest at and around the park. A small community foundation grant has been secured for some park equipment already.
