Why won’t my pet drink from his water bowl?

Your cat needs one ounce of water per pound of body weight each day. This amount may increase based on the activity level of your pet or existing health conditions. You can help keep your cat properly hydrated by providing a source of clean water. But, what if your cat doesn’t seem to like her bowl?

There could be many reasons your cat seeks out other sources of water – like the kitchen sink or bathtub, and sometimes the toilet.

  1. Cats can hear running water better than they can see flat water.
  2. Running water may be cooler and more oxygenated.
  3. Dripping water is fun to play with.
  4. They get water from their diet.
  5. They might not like room temperature water.
