Peekskill Dog Park in Peekskill, NY

Location of proposed dog park:

1795 Main St
Peekskill, NY 10566

About this community:

Peekskill is a thriving, historic community located on the banks of the Hudson River. One hour north of New York City, Peekskill is culturally and economically diverse and is at the gateway to the Hudson Highlands. Peekskill’s downtown is an array of dining and entertainment establishments as well as many artists’ lofts, galleries and studios. Peekskill is a small city (26,000 pop.) that is an ideal place to live, work and play with your pooch.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

The City of Peekskill has seen an 3000+ new housing options over the past 2 years, most dog friendly. This has led to an enormous increase in the number of dogs using the dog park. The current space, at times, cannot accommodate this increase safely. In 2021, in order to raise funds to improve and modernize the existing space and expand the current park to serve the dogs that visit daily, the Friends of the Peekskill Dog Park became a 501c3. To address the space issue, the Friends of the Peekskill Dog Park made a proposal to the City Council to take an unused, overgrown, poison ivy filled area and turn it into a woodland paradise for the dogs. This would not only provide a new, larger play area, but one that will stimulate the dog’s senses.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

The Bark for your Park grant will be used for fencing for the new woodland area at the Peekskill Dog Park.
