Newport, NH

Location of proposed dog park:

NH Route 103/11
Newport, NH 03773

About this community:

Newport, NH is a small, close-knit community of about 6,300 residents. From amazing history (it’s the birthplace of the author of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and creator of Thanksgiving) to incredible community events such as the country’s oldest, continuous Winter Carnival, residents of “the Sunshine Town” epitomize what it means to be a community. They work hard, care deeply, and stand together in the good times and the bad.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

The residents (and dogs!) of Newport, NH deserve to win a Bark for Your Park™ grant because for decades they have worked to make this town the best place to live, work, and play for everyone. With limited financial means but unwavering determination, town residents and non-profits have come together to fundraise for such a dog park, hoping to make Newport the first dog park in the region. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, those efforts came to a screeching halt. The town is excited to submit for this grant in hopes that they can build a beautiful dog park for Newport families, pets, and neighboring communities to enjoy for years to come. You see, for Newport its more than a dog park, it’s a sign of community, of hard work, of amazing things to come for a town that has been the underdog for far too long.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

The Town of Newport plans to use this potential Bark for Your Park™ grant to make a dream a reality for the many dog-loving families in the community. The location has been chosen, the plans drawn up, and the initial funds secured, but only with this grant can they put this project over the finish line. Located next to a community garden and potential neighborhood fruit orchard, the dog park will be a gathering place for the entire community. COVID-19 showed that relationships and a sense of belonging are more important than ever. This dog park would ensure that residents from across town and the region would have a beautiful, fun, safe area to gather, play, and connect; everything you need to have a full and healthy lifestyle, for both you and your pet.
