Dog Park Essentials: What to Bring?

If you’ve just found the perfect dog park to bring your furry friend to but aren’t sure what to bring along, this checklist will ensure you and your pooch are prepared for a fun and safe dog park outing.

A Leash

While some dog parks allow canines to roam off-leash, it’s always best to keep a leash handy in case you need to regain control of your pet.

A Collar

Whether in public with your pup or at a dog park, your dog should always wear a collar with identifying information. Consider a PetSafe® KeepSafe® Break-Away Safety Collar, the perfect collar for keeping your canine safe from getting entangled while playing with other dogs

Plastic Clean-Up Bags

Some parks have waste bag stations, but you should bring your own as well.

Travel Bowl and Water

Some parks don’t have water fountains. The ones that do can get crowded, especially during peak hours. Bring a travel bowl and a supply of water to keep your dog hydrated.

Treats

Use treats as a training mechanism for recall response or to reward your dog for good behavior while at a dog park. However, remember to never feed other dogs at the park without permission from their owners

Leave the Toys

Toys can lead to disruption at a dog park, especially with canines that have resource-guarding instincts. However, we recommended you keep a favorite toy handy in case you need to get your furry friend’s attention quickly.
