About this community:

Rib Mountain is located in northcentral Wisconsin at the crossroads of I-39/USH 51/STH 29 and is part of the Wausau region (pop. 163,000). Our tag line – “Where Nature, Family & Sport Come Together” – encompasses what our community represents. We are home to Rib Mountain State Park, Nine-Mile Recreation Area, Granite Peak Ski Area, and Lake Wausau. Skiing opened on Rib Mountain in 1937 and is one of the first ski resorts in North America.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Since Sandy’s Bark Park opened in the fall of 2018, it has received tremendous fanfare, and its popularity has merited expansion! A land donation gave the community an opportunity to expand the park, giving our four-legged friends more space to play. Through fundraising efforts and winning a Bark for Your Park™ grant, the expansion can become reality! Sandy’s Bark Park not only serves our residents, but the entire Wausau region as well as visitors to the area. The park is conveniently located off USH 51 for travelers to stop and take a “dog break.” It is also located near one of our pet-friendly hotels. This park is unique because not only can the dogs exercise, but so can their owners. The park has walking paths within the fenced-in area, but also connects to our community trail system. Sandy’s Bark Park is a gem that others have tried to emulate.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Are you thirsty? I bet your dog is! Grant funds will be used to install water services in the newly expanded park. Water services would include a dog watering spigot and a water bottle filling station with a fountain. As the days become hot, nothing is better than cooling off with a drink of water. Water bottle filling stations are popular with our trail users, and having this along with a dog spigot at Sandy’s Bark Park will quelch everyone’s thirst!
