Natchitoches, LA

Location of proposed dog park:

4515 University Parkway
Natchitoches, LA 71457

About this community:

Natchitoches was established in 1714, making it the oldest permanent settlement within the borders of the Louisiana Purchase. The City’s Historic Landmark District, which fronts Cane River Lake and encompasses a 33-block area, includes many historic homes, churches, and commercial structures. The population of Natchitoches is 17,898 people. It is nationally recognized as a Preserve America Community, a Distinctive Destination and a Great American Main Street; Natchitoches is a genuine heritage destination.

Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

Natchitoches deserves to win the Bark for Your Park grant because the Natchitoches community and pet owners are committed to promoting responsible canine care and socialization in our area. This commitment is being carried out with the support and fundraising of local volunteer organizations, the City of Natchitoches, which has promised to allocate resources to support the operation of the park or help organize such efforts, and support from the citizens of Natchitoches.

How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:

If Natchitoches receives the Bark for Your Park grant, the money would be used towards fencing and pet play equipment. The City of Natchitoches will donate six acres located within the gates of the newly constructed Parc Natchitoches for a dog park if Natchitoches receives the grant. Parc Natchitoches consists of five baseball/softball fields with a concession stand, four soccer fields, fishing pond, walking trail, covered pavilions, and playground equipment. The addition of a dog park is viewed as a canine complement to the town’s existing public parks.
