About this community:
Lubbock is the largest city in the Texas Panhandle and the 11th most populous city in Texas, with over 340,000 residents in the metropolitan area. As the birthplace of rock and roll legend Buddy Holly, Lubbock honors its artistic roots by supporting a thriving arts and music district. From the Ranching Heritage Center to Prairie Dog Town, animals and pets have been and continue to be an integral part of what makes Lubbock great.
Why this community deserves a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
The Lubbock Community highly values the health and well-being of its furry family members. On the list of 2022’s Best Dog Park Cities, Lubbock ranked among the top 10 across the country, and with a new 5-acre public dog park opening this year, they are sure to climb to the top. Expanding the availability and convenience of these spaces is a high priority for the city, but budget constraints and other needs have meant looking for every opportunity to fund upgrades and repairs to the existing much-loved dog parks. Lubbock is also home to over 50,000 college students every year, which means many younger first-time pet parents are often in apartments or houses with small yards. The city animal services, as well as numerous shelters, vets, and other caregivers emphasize to new owners that regular exercise and safe socialization are key to keeping their dogs happy and healthy. Dog parks are the easiest way to keep these new furry family members happy and healthy.
How this community would use a Bark for Your Park™ grant:
The City of Lubbock plans to use the Bark for Your Park™ grant to add additional safety features to their most popular park, the Canyon Run Dog Park. The grant will be used to install two Mutt Mitt stations, an additional dog-friendly drinking fountain, and a concrete pad around the fountains. These improvements will allow community members and their furry families to help keep the park clean and ensure they are able to access plenty of drinking water without the mess and health risks that come from mud and standing water. The City of Lubbock is so excited for the opportunity to make these necessary improvements with the help of the PetSafe® Bark for Your Park™ grant and the voting community!
