Ball Games & the Dog Park - Enjoying Outings with Your Dog

There’s no better way to enjoy the dog days of summer than taking your pooch with you to a baseball game and the Bark in the Park events are very popular at major baseball stadiums around the country.

This year, both the American League and National League baseball teams are offering a number of canine events nationwide and taking in a game can be a lot of fun both at home and if you are traveling somewhere with your pooch.

However, it’s important to remember that you have to book in advance for your pooch to attend and tickets usually sell out quickly.

If you have never attended a ball game with your pooch before, know that you will have to sign a waiver to take responsibility for your pooch’s behavior and you will also have to show proof that your pet’s vaccinations are all up to date.

Further, a ticket is for one dog per pet parent and it allows you to hang in a designated area within the park. Your dog will have to be on a leash at all times and there is a canine age restriction – no dogs younger than six months are allowed. Such events are well publicized on individual team websites.

For your dog to enjoy the event, make sure you take plenty of water with you to keep him hydrated. A small portable pop-up doggie tent that you can set up alongside you will keep him out of the direct sun. And while he may look very sporty wearing a team T-shirt, it may be too hot, so rather opt of a bandana showing support instead.

The idea behind these events is to promote spending time outdoors with your dog. And another way to do that on a regular basis to is take your pooch to a dog park for exercise and some canine socialization.

This month also marks the start of the PetSafe® Brand’s eighth annual Bark for Your Park grant-giving program when the company gives away grants up to $25 000 to communities looking to build or upgrade a dog park in their area. Communities around the country can submit an application up until June 30 2018.

Further, May 5 marks National Dog Park Day and this year special events designed to encourage pet owners and communities across the country to gather to celebrate their pets, learn about adoption and enjoy meeting with fellow residents of their community will take place in dog parks in the following cities namely Knoxville, TN, Baker City, OR, Port Chester, NH, Enfield, NH University Place, WA, Lodi, WI, Truth or Consequences, NM, Jacksonville, FL, Colorado Springs, CO, Birmingham, AL and Boston, MA.

Since the inception of this program, PetSafe has given away over $1 million to build, maintain and enhance dog parks in over 70 communities across the country. To learn more, and, to view the application and submission requirements visit www.petsafe.net/barkforyourpark
